The story of Pero Family Farms has a humble beginning that is representative of the true authenticity and nature of the American farmer. In the early 20th century, in the year 1908, Sicilian immigrant, Peter Pero, started a modest farm in a small town known as Brant, which is located in western New York. Peter would spend countless hours tending to his fields and harvesting the finest quality vegetables which he would bring home to his family. After his passing, his legacy endured and his wife Dea Pero continued the farming operation.

Their two sons, Peter Pero II and Charlie Pero were determined to follow in their father’s footsteps. At the age of 10 years old their eldest son Peter Pero II, would bring the fresh vegetables by horse and buggy to the local markets to be sold. The community had grown an admiration for the produce of the family's arduous labor and the 2nd generation had successfully carried on the tradition.

The 50’s and 60’s

The 1950’s and onwards, the 3rd generation, Peter Pero III, David Pero, and Leonard Pero had expanded the farming operation into the neighboring state of Pennsylvania and became one of the largest green bean growers in the country. As the farm grew so did the family, and it wasn’t long before the fourth generation had become immersed in the family farming operation.

Peter Pero III’s five children, Peter Pero IV, Frank Pero, Charles Pero, Angela Pero, and Christine Pero became involved in the family business at a young age. In the 1980’s, the oldest son Peter Pero IV had a vision to grow vegetables year-round and expand their offerings. Through careful consideration and planning the Pero family had determined that the state of Florida offered an adequate growing season and sufficient growing conditions, allowing them to grow an assortment of vegetables year-round.

In 1981, they relocated their headquarters to Delray Beach, FL. The family faced a variety of challenges and circumstances as a result of the relocation to the new growing region such as: a different climate, different soils, and different farming techniques. In 1986, Peter Pero IV and his siblings purchased the farm from their father and their uncles. This was the beginning of a new era, as the siblings worked together to overcome many different obstacles. They were able to successfully adapt to these changes and develop conventional and organic farming methods that have effectively changed the industry in the Southeastern Region of the United States.
